Thank you for your interest in Another Octave.

Dear Prospective Singer,

Another Octave is a community chorus, open to all women. We sing in a variety of voicings ranging from high Soprano to low Alto. At your first rehearsal you will sit with your section and learn several pieces in the repertoire. At the end of that rehearsal or if needed at the beginning of the next you will be asked to do a fairly painless audition. The audition will include but not be limited to singing in 3 or 4 part harmony with several other chorus members on an excerpt from one of the pieces learned in the rehearsal. You may request to sing with another person from your section. This audition is meant to allow you to share and demonstrate the ease with which you learn a portion of a song as well as your ability to match tone and pitch, sing in harmony and blend vowel sounds. Although this might sound scary, I promise it won’t hurt.

Our concert seasons include performing a Fall and Spring concert in two venues along with a Winter Fundraiser musical event. Members of Another Octave also perform out for other organizations and events throughout the year.

Our rehearsals are Tuesdays from 7:00pm to 9:30pm. As we get close to performances we might go a little later. We meet at the Unitarian Society of New Haven, 700 Hartford Turnpike, Hamden, CT. Twice a season we meet on a Saturday for a longer rehearsal. Another Octave membership dues are $20 a month with a sliding scale for those in need of assistance. Dues are collected to cover the purchase of music, rehearsal hall rental and staff salaries.

Please be sure to let me know if you plan on joining us. You can email me at newmember@anotheroctave.org. I like to "buddy-up" new members with an old hand for the first few weeks, so you can learn a little more about our culture, and you'll have a personal contact.

Hope to see you soon!
